We consider wireless communication systems that employ multiple transmit and receive antennas to increase the data rate and achieve spatial diversity in fading multipath channels. We focus on a system with N transmit antennas and M receive antennas, and present the optimal maximum likelihood detector, as well as suboptimal detectors for both frequency-selective and frequency nonselective channels. The performance of the detectors are analyzed theoretically as well as through simulations. Coded systems are also considered
